  • What Are Your Challenges When Pivoting?

    The current COVID situation has greatly impacted both job and businesses.
    If the cash cow (your job or your business) is dead or dying, how can you create income or new revenue stream to keep afloat?

     

    The scary fact is that we are trained for our jobs but we are not trained to create businesses that generate jobs.

Instead be like David Ng (Pet Lovers) a Seagate engineer who applied the syetms training that he learnt as an engineer in his family retail business. As a result, the business grew from 2 stores to more than 40 stores in South East Asia!

     

    Technologies and Solutions are last. Product-Market Fit is mission critical.

    Many Asian businesses have a Western-bias that assume technologies and solutions are the critical success factors to creating the market. Build them and they will come! This isn't aways true.

     

    The failures of the Segway vehicle and the Googles Glasses are recent reminders why this approach is wrong. In 2001, Segway predicted they would sell 10,000 units per month. They only sold 140,000 after 18 years Google spend over $825M to develop a product that did not have a clear purpose. In retrospect, they admitted that they assumed a market market demand based on the shine factor rather than any real personal or business need.

     

    Product-market Fit is not a new concept but one that is often ignored because we taught to assume that a great technology or product will automatically create a demand. It does not.

    Manage a business with defined systems and processes. Don't waste time re-inventing the wheel.

    McDonald's a business that is crewed by the lowest qualified staff in any country. Yet, they generate $19 Billion in revenue each year. How is this possible?
